Apparatus

If the call goes out from Fire Control to respond to a multiple care accident or a trench cave in, or some other type of rescue is needed, Rescue 5 is loaded to bear with the tools needed to take care of business.

If the call is for a fire in your house or a fire in your car, Engines 1, 2, and 3 are the pumpers ready to handle the job.

Ladder 6 is the truck of choice if a ladder with a great reach is required. Whether the ladder is required to rescue someone from a tall structure, it is needed to spray water down on the roof of a burning house, to reach a fire in one of the multi-story buildings at UB or one of hotels in our district, Ladder 6 is ready.

Rescue 4 and 7 are ready to roll, as well as all the chief's vehicles are ready to respond to any medical emergency. They are equipped to handle anything from a basic first aid such as an ankle injury to the advanced life support needed by a potential heart attack or stroke victim.

Rescue 4-1 is our primary support vehicle for water and ice rescue operations. It can also used as needed to support other types of operations such as a HazMat or other emergencies as required.

5-1 is our utility truck. It serves a multitude of roles as a support vehicle for fire company operations.

Our fire chief, and assistant fire chiefs, are assigned a four wheel drive vehicle foruse while they serve in their capacity as chief officers. Because they are driven nearly full-time by the fire chiefs these vehicles are often the first to arrive on any scene. For that reason, the trucks are equipped with much of the material that the chief would need to respond to a situation until other apparatus and personnel arrive on the scene. These vehicles also serve an important role as command and communications centers during a long or protracted emergency.

Chief's Response Units

Driven by our department's chief and three assistant chiefs, these packed SUVs (currently four Chevorolet Tahoes) pack a lot of capability into seemingly ordinary and familiar vehicles.

Each vehicle is certified by the State of New York for emergency medical emergency response requiring either basic or advanced life support capabilities.

These vehicles are available to the chief officers for emergency response 24/7. Not only, can and do they respond as medical emergency fly cars, they also respond to all rescue and fire calls. Often the first to arrive at any scene, these vehicles carry various equipment useful to help control or contain an emergency until other more specialized or heavy equipment arrives. At medium and some large responses, these vehicles are also quite capable for serving as mobile incident command and communications centers.

Utility 5-1

GFC Utility Truck
2007 Ford F250

Versatility is the key to this truck's usefulness within the fire company. Compared to the pumpers, ladder trucks and other apparatus used by our firefighters this truck's role may be seem small but it is vital.

This truck is small enough to get us into some tight places other trucks can't venture, has the size needed to get the job done and get the emergency responders to the scene and enough versatility to be used as fly car for emergency medical response and to ferry personnel, tools and other equipment and emergency supplies to any scene.
